August 2016 Wrap-Up and Challenge Update

August Wrap-Up…better late than never huh? I read 10 books this month (not including novellas). It was an ok month! 10 seems to be the average of the last few months. I listened to the Lonely Hearts Club on audio and read all the novellas before reading We Can Work It Out. I also read quite a few middle reader books this month and really enjoyed all of them. I also re-read Queen of Shadows to prep for Empire of Storms this month (I knew I didn’t have the time to commit to re-reading all the books but maybe next year).

All the books I read in August…

Overall I seem to be slacking on my Flights of Fantasy challenge…I have been reading a lot more science fiction this year instead of fantasy. There are a few that I am hoping to get to the rest of the year that will hopefully bump me in the end. Once again adding several titles to my contemporary challenge!

July 2016 Wrap-Up and Challenge Update

Oh July oh quickly you came and went. I swear June was yesterday. Overall July was a good reading month for me! I read a ton of contemporary (the summer really puts me in the mood!) and I loved most of it. I also started binging Tessa Dare and predict I will be done with her back list before the end of the year. If you are hesitant to read historical romance, I reccomend Tessa Dare! I haven’t fallen in love with historical romance like I have her books. I plan on writing a whole post about it because she is an amazing writer and a lovely person!

All the books I read in July…

I also read Aftercare Instructions by Bonnie Pipkin (which I loved!) but doesn’t come out until 2017 and has no cover yet. 10 books is not bad for July since I have Comic Con craziness and Harry Potter craziness (at the store). I did squeeze Cursed Child in this month but that mostly has to do with the fact that it was under 300 pages and is written as a script. I may write a post about my feelings towards this book but not sure I have quite enough to say.

HOW WAS YOUR READING MONTH!?? Did you read Cursed Child yet? Have you been reading a ton of contemporary like me??

July 2016 Wrap-Up

Goodbye July! And good riddance… I’m not really a summer lover and I need fall to get here like now! To make July even worse, I only read six books this month and didn’t get on the blog as much as I would’ve liked to. The biggest reason for that is probably Pokemon GO! which I’ve been doing great with and if this were a PoGo wrap-up I would have lots to tell you, but it’s not… so how about I just get to the point.

What did I read in July? Audiobooks:

Forgive Me, Leonard Peacock by Matthew Quick (4 Stars)
Tell Me Again How A Crush Should Feel by Sara Farizan (5 Stars)
Shadowshaper by Daniel Jose Older (4 Stars)

Tell Me Again How A Crush Should Feel was my favorite of the 3, and I definitely need to read more by Sara Farizan, but all 3 of these audiobooks were super enjoyable.

Comics:

The Woods Vol. 1: The Arrow by James Tynion IV (author) and Michael Dialynas (artist) (4 Stars)

Just the one comic for the month, but there are plenty of volumes for this one so I definitely plan on continuing!

ARCs:

Gemina by Aime Kaufman and Jay Kristoff (5 Stars)
The Sun Is Also A Star by Nicola Yoon (5 Stars)

Both of these books were amazing in their own way. Gemina was a fantastic sequel to Illuminae and TSIAAS is another instant favorite from Nicola Yoon. I can’t wait to own these two in hardcover!

So July may have not been a super productive reading month for me, but I am currently sitting at 72 books read out of 75 on my Goodreads reading challenge, so I’d say I’m having a decent year for sure!

Did you have any good reads this month?

June 2016 Wrap-Up

What do you mean June is over?! Julying! …heh. Saw that pun on Tumblr today and got a good chuckle. Anyway, July is in fact here and that means a new reading month ahead! June was an okay reading month for me. I listened to a lot of audiobooks and read more comics than usual, but I made it over my 10 book a month goal, so I’m proud.

So what did I read in June? Audiobooks:

More Happy Than Not by Adam Silvera (5 Stars)
Quiet Power: The Secret Strengths of Introverts by Susan Cain (5 stars)
Asylum by Madeleine Roux (3 Stars)
Being Jazz: My Life As A (Transgender) Teen by Jazz Jennings (5 Stars)

I can now happily say that I’ve read More Happy Than Not in ARC form, hardcover form, eBook form, and audiobook form. I guess all that’s left is paperback form now! My favorite audiobook this month, excluding MHTN because it will forever be a fave, was Quiet Power. I learned so much about myself through this book and I can honestly say I’ve earned a little more confidence in my introverted self. My least favorite was Asylum, it just didn’t hold my attention enough for me to stay focused.

Comics, which is a category I wish I read more of:

Wolverine Origins: Born In Blood by Daniel Way and Steve Dillon (4 Stars)
Bee And Puppycat Vol. #1 by Natasha Allegri and Garrett Jackson (5 stars)
Bee And Puppycat Vol. #2 by Natasha Allegri and Garrett Jackson (5 stars)
Bee And Puppycat Vol. #3 by Natasha Allegri and Garrett Jackson (5 stars)
Bee And Puppycat Vol. #4 by Natasha Allegri and Garrett Jackson (5 stars)
Bee And Puppycat Vol. #5 by Natasha Allegri and Garrett Jackson (5 stars)
Bee And Puppycat Vol. #6 by Natasha Allegri and Garrett Jackson (5 stars)

There’s clearly a pattern here. I wanted to read the Wolverine comics because I adore him and next to Spider-Man he’s my favorite comic book character. Buuuuut I had some trouble deciding where to start. The one I read says Origins and Vol. 1, so any non-comic book reader, like myself, would think this is a good place to start… nope. I was so confused. So I put that on hold for now and jumped into Bee And Puppycat which is the most adorable comic I’ve ever read! It was suggested to me  because of my love for Adventure Time, and I’m so happy I found it. I read these on Scribd, but I’ll definitely be buying myself some physical copies ASAP. Clearly in this category Bee And Puppycat takes the cake over Wovlerine.

And last, books from my personal libray:

The Great American Whatever by Tim Federle (4 Stars)
We Were Liars by E. Lockhart (3 Stars)
Girl In Pieces by Kathleen Glasgow (3.5 Stars)
Up In The Tree House by K.K. Allen (5 Stars)

Two ARCs and two released, no too bad! These were actually some pretty good summer reads, except maybe Girl In Pieces which isn’t very summer-y at all, but still. Up In The Tree House by my self-published friend K.K. Allen was definitely my fave of the group – review coming for that one later! I was so excited when she asked me if I wanted an advanced copy of her new book, and I adored every word of it. We Were Liars was probably my least favorite. It just wasn’t for me.

So 15 reads total, but since 7 of them were comics I’m happy keeping my average around 10. I guess the extra amount that these comics have given me on my Goodreads challenge can count for some of the re-reads I’ve done which for some reason I can never get them to count again on the challenge number. Oh well! I’m happily approaching my goal with 65 out of 75 books read for the year so far. I’m thinking I’ll need to change that soon 😉

What did you read in June?

June 2016 Wrap-Up and Challenge Update

Happy July my fellow book lovers!! How was your June?? Did you kickstart your summer reading?? I did a small personal read-a-thon where I challenged myself to read books with “summer”in the title during the first week of summer and I thought that went great! I also read my first Tamora Pierce novel, as well as my second and my third…I was going to read the last book but my heart isn’t quite ready after book 3. Shout out to Gaby for forcing me to read these! There will be a post at some point that sums up my feelings on this series because I have a lot of them.

All the books I read in May…

13831 13835 13830 17838528 21843117 30056689 14744489 22537367 26109094 26073072 13436373 2568907426365537 27170141 26114333

15 books this month!! I also DNF-ed 1 book. Overall an amazing month full of a ton of variety. I like having a few books I plan to get to during the month and not a full TBR for the month. I am a mood reader and if I forced myself to read, I know I would like books less and would probably read less. YAY for awesome reading month!!

May 2016 Wrap-Up and Challenge Update

Happy June! I mean we are already a week into June but it’s not too late to post my May Wrap-up. May was a crazy month with BEA and things in my personal life but I did manage to squeeze in a few (amazing) books. I did get an ACOTAR reread in before picking up ACOMAF.  Check out below what I read in May and I can already tell you I have read some amazing books this first week of June.

All the books I read in May…

**I also was lucky enough to read Becky Albertalli’s THE UPSIDE OF UNREQUITED in May but that doesn’t have a cover yet**

I read I total of 8 books in May…which for how crazy the month was I am really happy with how many I read. PLUS I read both a middle reader title and a nonfiction title. Add in that I added multiple books to both my challenges this month and wow was May good. Here’s hoping June is just as awesome a reading month for me!

May Wrap-Up

Happy June! May was a pretty great reading month. I got some good books read and blew up my TBR pile with all the arcs I got at BEA. I’m ready to read EVERYTHING this summer!

So what did I read this month? Between Scribd and Audible I listened to 4 audiobooks including:

Highly Illogical Behavior by John Corey Whaley (5 Stars)
Kissing in America by Margot Rabb (2 Stars)
Reboot by Amy Tintera (4 Stars)
The Last Time We Say Goodbye by Cynthia Hand (4 Stars)

And I finally got into my never ending tbr list from my shelf at home:

My Best Friend’s Exorcism by Grady Hendrix (4 Stars)
Stars Above by Marissa Meyer (4 Stars)
Drag Teen by Jeffery Self (4 Stars)
History Is All You Left Me by Adam Silvera (5 (billion) Stars)
The Last Star by Rick Yancey (4 Stars)

Overall a pretty good reading month. Got a few arcs in there, wrote some good reviews, listened to some great books, and got to read one of my highly anticipated books of 2017! My favorite read of the month was definitely History Is All You Left Me by Adam Silvera. It’s not secret how important Adam’s writing is to me, and I can’t wait for everyone to read this book! My least favorite read of the month was Kissing In America by Margot Rabb. It just wasn’t the fluff I was expecting and it was very hard to relate to the main character. But I enjoyed every book I read this month, and I can’t believe The 5th Wave series is over with the release of The Last Star… but what an ending!!
