Allegiant Movie Review (finally) + Giveaway

I’ve been holding off on writing this review for two reasons. Reason #1, it’s the perfect companion post to go with the epic giveaway at the end of this post,Β  and #2… how to review something you wanted to love so so much, but no matter what you just can’t? *sigh*

It’s no secret I love Divergent, and I’ve tried to stay nothing but positive when it came to the movie adaptations. I loved the first movie, Insurgent was different but still good, and I don’t know what to say about Allegiant without simultaneously crying and laughing. I didn’t dislike all of it, a lot of it I found ways to enjoy, but for the most part it was just so disapointing that I’m almost glad Ascendant’s budget got cut – and the fact that there’s going to be another movie is a whole other rant that I won’t get into right now.

Let’s get the bad stuff out of the way so I can end this post on high notes. Warning, there’s some spoilers ahead, both for the movie and book… but both movie and book have been out long enough.

My first problem was Tori’s death. It was so, blah. I’m glad they were keeping to the source, but I feel like it’s the stuff like that where they were like “hey look! we did it like the book, fans love us please?” The problem with her dying is that there’s no Amar. Yeah, Amar remember him? Tori’s thought-to-be-dead brother and probably the biggest reason why Tori’s death was so impact-full. Without Amar there was such a lack of emotion for her death, and that’s just a shame. Then there’s the way the entire movie looked. I know it’s futuristic dystopian, but the world that they’ve created is more like crazy sci-fi with a hint of dystopian. Did you see their version of O’Hare airport?! Trust me, it DOES NOT look like that! It just felt to inconsistent compared to Divergent. And I can’t even imagine what Ascendant is going to look like with it’s slashed budget. Stemming of the look of the movie, why has Chicago been turned into Mars? Radiation.. fine whatever, but why? I don’t get what the point was, it didn’t add anything to the story. Was it just to get them in those weird bubbles?! Cause I could’ve done without those. I will forever hold a grudge over those dumb bubbles.

Now that my rage is out (and I’m sure there’s more I disliked, but that’s what I got for now) I do have to say the movie was more exciting than the book. I really like where they took the characters, I’m glad Four still kind of went off on his own to try and save his peeps, and I liked where Tris and Caleb’s relationship went. Obviously things were tweaked to make room for another movie, and Tris did not die at the end, fine. But if she lives through Ascendant then I will send Lionsgate a jar of my hate tears. Oh another I really liked was the sweet security system that Caleb gets to use to keep an eye on Chicago. That thing was dope and I welcome that weird super sci-fi change with open arms.

I will say this before I end this review; we did get one good thing from the whole radiation jazz, and that’s Four in the shower!

So I guess it’s not all bad πŸ˜‰ In the end I gave the movie 3 out of 5 stars. For the most part the stuff that bothered me was superficial, and when it comes down to the plot and the characters I was mostly pleased. I can’t say I’m excited to see the end, especially since it’s basically going to be all new material since they’ve exhausted all story form the books, but I’m definitely interested. I meditate daily and try and keep an open mind.

I haven’t see Allegiant yet. Mostly because I still haven’t seen the Insurgent movie even though I own it. :/ I also haven’t finished Allegiant because I’ve heard mixed reviews about how it ends. I have about 100 pages left. This has been going on for about 2 years. 😦 I really should just read it. lol

I’m going to see Allegiant tonight. I saw the first two opening weekend, but I didn’t feel the same tug to go see this one immediately. They’ve been fun movies, but nothing blow-your-socks-off amazing, I’m sorry to say. So, yeah, I appreciate your review. My mom saw the movie and wanted to talk about it, but I said I hadn’t seen it and at least it wasn’t the last movie. She had no clue there was another one coming out! And I hadn’t heard about the budget being cut… Wonder how that will work out. Oh, Allegiant.

I haven’t seen Allegiant yet because I haven’t seen the first one. I have the DVD and will watch it soon. Thank you

Thanks for the honest review. While the Allegiant movie didn’t necessarily blow me away, it was nice to see the characters come to life on a big screen. The lessons that the book taught us were truly reinforced in this way. Certain details were omitted from the film, but it’s big lesson, protecting diversity and standing against those who attack it even if that requires selflessness, was portrayed well enough.

I watched Allegiant last week, and while it did not blow me away, I loved that the book’s main lesson was reinforced. Selflessness is beautiful and diversity is part of what makes us human. We shouldn’t try to erase or degrade those with flaws. I liked your honest movie review. πŸ™‚

I saw the movie and was so happy ! I loved every minute!! I most enjoyed the scene where Four masters the drones and aces the exercise! Four is my favorite character! He is brilliant and extraordinary!!!
