Only 2 more Sundays left in November which means time is dwindling for NaNoWriMo. I wish I could tell you that next Sunday I’ll be sharing my WINNER badge with everyone, but at this point I just don’t think I’ll hit the 50,000 word mark this year.
And believe it or not I was actually ready to give up and quit. Not give up on this story entirely, but just give up on the fact that I’ll have anything more than 20,000 words by the end of November. So I told myself I would let November fade away into the distance like a bad movie.
BUT THEN! I was on Instagram and I saw something that changed my mind.
Kami Garcia, who is one of my faves, is a supporter in NaNoWriMo and often keeps me going. I’m not really a believer in fate but it was a pretty big coincidence that she posted this on the day I was going to admit defeat:
So thanks Kami! I’m not going to quit, and if you’re in the same boat as me right now I hope you’re not ready to give up either. Who care’s if you don’t make it to the finish line. Don’t stop trying, and take comfort in the fact that your story isn’t going anywhere. When the clock rolls over to December 1st your novel isn’t going to go *poof*! And you will be okay. Just keep on writing and whether it takes a month or a year you will finish and it will be magical.
To those of you who are nearing the 50,000 word mark, or have finished, then way to go! You are a rockstar. Now comes the fun part…. the editing. Dun dun dun.
