What I read…October 2013

October was a great reading month for me! I had 2 rereads (Divergent and Insurgent), 10 books and 1 novella. If that isn’t considered a good reading month that I don’t know what can be. I am not including my thoughts on my rereads or novella since I always seem to repeat myself!

Kami Garcia/UnbreakableUnbreakable (The Legion #1) by Kami Garcia

4/5…This book was totally fast paced, full of awesome adventures and plenty of ghosts. My only complaint is that the “romance” felt nonexistent and forced when it did make an appearance. I know some people really enjoyed it but it was never there fore me. I am really excited to see where this series goes!

3/5…I only picked this one up to finish out the series. I liked this one more than Point of Retreat but only because of the “flashback” chapters. I honestly could care less about the honeymoon/let’s have sex 24/7 because we can part. Lake is still very meh (she honestly freaked out he kissed other girls before her..seriously). I did  like being inside Will’s head during book 1 moments. I especially enjoyed scenes between Will and Lake’s mom.

3.5/5…I enjoyed the continuation of the story but there were many instances where the characters jump around in their actions and thoughts. There was a big emphasis on Lillia in this one and she is my least favorite of the trio so I found myself waiting to read about the other two. The paranormal aspect is still really vague but has a lot of potential for the final installment. The ending definitely took a turn I wasn’t expecting!

4.5/5…Elise’s story was so real. Elise is definitely a flawed character but I still was cheering for her the entire time. I loved the music! After I finished reading this, it made me think DJ-ing sounds like the coolest thing ever. I’m excited to read more from Sales.

4.5/5…This was totally cute and totally swoon-y. I loved that all the characters come from such varying backgrounds and families. There was a great twist that I was NOT expecting at all. My only complaint is that Samantha seemed flat at some points in the story. I did enjoy her narration at several points (specifically a pharmacy visit)…I declare that I need my own Jase to live next door!

5/5…A beautiful, modern twist on the classic story of Wonderland. I loved all the punk elements and the twists I was NOT expecting. Small complaint was sometimes I was lost as to what was actually happening and who was present. BUT! All the swoons! This was seriously one of my favorite romances to read. I cannot wait to pick up book 2, I just hope the love triangle doesn’t cause too many problems because I am team Jeb through thick and thin.

4/5…I thought I was tired of dystopians but when given a fresh take can change your mind. If your not tired of dystopian I would recommend picking this up. It’s fast paced and filled with lists of twists and suspense. Kitty is a great character that I found to be incredibly likable but I do have to say the side characters lacked a bit for me. I kept getting who was who confused and at one point I thought she was engaged to her uncle. This has to partially do with some of the story twists but in the end it all came together in my head. The writing was superb and I cannot wait to continue this series!

7664334Amy & Roger’s Epic Detour by Morgan Matson

4.5/5…So cute and so much fun! I loved watching Amy’s personal growth as well as watching her relationship form with Roger. There was a great cast of secondary characters. They all had me laughing, smiling and almost crying! I really enjoyed the extras (pictures, maps, etc) in this book that helped round out the whole road trip experience. This book makes me want to take a road trip!

17383918Allegiant (Divergent #3) by Veronica Roth

5/5…A bold conclusion to a fabulous trilogy. Roth knocked it out if the park again with her signature writing style. I found the pacing to be perfect. There was plenty of action but we also get more down time than we did in Insurgent (which means more kisses!). This book made me laugh and cry and also thank The Lord I don’t live in dystopian Chicago. The duel POV was rocky at first but after the first few chapters, it gave a great look into Tobias mind. Seriously…being inside Tobias head was just perfect. Minor compliant is the info dumping that happened around the middle of the novel, otherwise a great finale.

So not only did I get a good amount of reading in, I read most 4 or 5 star books! Have you read any of these?
