Class of 2k13 reading and In The After Launch party (+giveaway)

So I2gxn0cl272bcr686e2h1 actually went to an event that wasn’t at Anderson’s! On Friday June 28, 2013 I went to The Book Cellar for an event featuring a reading and signing by a group that goes by Class of 2k13. This is a group of middle grade and young adult authors who all have their debut novels coming out in the year 2013. This was a great chance for me to hear about various books as well as get a few I already owned signed.

This event was readings followed by a “meet and greet”, which allowed for questions if needed. Because of this I don’t really have notes to share other than to point you in the direction of their books! The authors I was personally excited to meet included Debra Driza (Mila 2.0), Kate Karyus Quinn (Another Little Piece), Demitria Lunetta (In The After), Mindy McGinnis (Not a Drop to Drink) and Lydia Kang (Control). There were a ton of other authors there that I got to hear from and I have ow added a few of their books to my TBR! Definitely check out their website as well as their books. I talked with most of the authors, even if it was just briefly, and they were all considerate to my ramblings.

photoAfter the Class of 2k13 event, Demitria Lunetta was having her launch party for her book In The After. This was such a fun event! It was very informal, allowing for Demitria to talk to people as they came in. I was able to get some book talk in with her but it was limited because at the time I had only read about 1/3. I actually ended up talking to a lot of her family which wasn’t a problem because her sister was absolutely hilarious! I have never seen someone so excited over me buying a book.

There was cupcakes and cookies, book talks, pictures and giveaways. The door prizes were the cutest and really tied into the story well. In terms of the giveaways I actually won the grand prize which consisted of some awesome In The After swag as well as an apocalypse survival kit (full of Twinkie goodness). The evening turned out great and I had such a great time.

All in all I am really glad I was able to attend the event (after finding someone to switch with me at work!) and can’t say enough how lovely and kind Demitria and the entire Class of 2k13.

Time for the GIVEAWAY! I have a few signed ARCs to giveaway as well as a whole bunch of In The After/Class of 2k13 swag. Demitria was more than kind enough to give me extras to pass along. There will be three prizes in all, each just as awesome as the next.

The Grand Prize includes: (1) signed hard cover of In The After, (1) In The After door prize, (1) In The After t-shirt and (1) Class of 2k13 swag bag.

I went to an event back in February at The Book Cellar (for Robin Benway, Megan Miranda, and Yelena Black) and really wanted to go to this one, but chose to go to opening night of ALA instead. There were so many good YA events near Chicago this weekend, but I couldn’t go to any of them because they all conflicted with ALA. 😦 It sounds like this event was really fun!
