Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme host by The Broke and the Bookish
This week’s top ten Tuesday is Top Ten Words/Topics That Instantly Make Me Buy/Pick Up A Book. This list is a bit scattered but hopefully you can catch where it’s a word and where it’s a topic (or both!)
- Dystopian – I am currently OBSESSED with anything dystopian. I will give any book pegged as dystopian a chance. I will admit though that this can be a total hit or miss and I am starting a lot of similarity in this category. What I really want is some stand alone dystopian *hint hint*
- Summer – I am a summer child. My favorite memories are almost all from summer. Plus I have WAY more reading time in the summer and love to read anything summer related at this time.
- Chicago – Chicago is my home town and I love reading about it (whether it be fiction or nonfiction). This is one reason I am in love with the Divergent series because it makes Chicago look so cool!
- Gaming – It didn’t hit me until recently but I am drawn to books that feature gamers. I am personally a closet gamer and love any and all references to old school games and modern games alike. I wish there were some more female gamer protagonists!
- Zombies – There are not enough zombie books in YA! I think this is the reason I read one when I see it.
- E-mail/Texting formatting – I really enjoy reading e-mails/texts between characters and therefore will pick up any book that’s title eludes to this (i.e. I’ve Got Your Number)
- Fairy tales – I love the rise in the amount of retellings of fairy tales and am always looking for more!
- Book – I like reading books that surround a book or has book in the title.
- Vampires – I like to think that I am over vampires and yet I continue to pick up these books! I can help but enjoy these.
I’m with you on Dystopias. They can be really interesting if done right.
Oh I love texting/email format – good call there!
Zombies! I LOVE zombie books. They are simply terrifying to me. Also, totally love the text/email formatting in books. I don’t know what it is about it that makes it crack me up every time!
Great list ! I’m with you on the email/texting format. I love books that are written in that fashion. I also wish that there were more single volume dystopians. Why does it three books to tell a story?
Here’s my TTT
I’m with you on Dystopian as well. 😀 Great list.
Yup, I’m all about the vampire and dystopian novels… They always get extra attention on the shelf. Gaming books are awesome, I wish I had thought about that for my list!
I love the ducks at the bottom of your blog. 🙂
I, too, am a sucker for vampires!
Good list!

I love dystopian, but I agree — there’s so much same ole, same ole in the genre that it drives me crazy! Have you heard of ORLEANS by Sherri L. Smith? It’s a new dystopian that I thought was really different than others out there.
Email/Texting was a great choice to have on your list! I totally didn’t think of that because I don’t find a lot of books written in that format but the ones I have read I have loved. Great list!
